Canon R5 Mirrorless — Noise at High ISO

Someone today asked how the Canon R5 handles high ISO. I happened to shoot in the same place on different days with the Canon 1DX Mark II and the Canon R5.

Let’s see how they compare in the high ISO area.

Black-crested titmouse ISO 4000 with the Canon R5

I’m not seeing much different. In my opinion, the Canon R5 handles high ISO as well as the Canon 1DX Mark II.

  1. Kathy,
Thanks for the comparison. The bird images do show excellent feather detail with the high ISO.
Have you done any comparisons when the images are underexposed and the shadow/exposure sliders have to be pulled up?

  2. Cathy, check this out! This is a 5 stock pan from 5 landscape oriented images..lot of overlap in the stitching…. But the kicker is this! They were shot in HDR vivid, so these 5 images were all processed in camera…average shutter speed 10 seconds!! The amazing software managed to align each HDR image very well. When I’ve shot HDR’s with my 5D IV or even the 7D II, the shutter speeds were likely longer, and there was always star trails….
